The Group has its origin in the activities of Guido Bernaerts in the tyre industry. The surpluses of the tyre business were invested in strategic land locations. A chain of tyre outlets was sold at the start of the ‘90s and the first property transaction became a reality. This was followed by the development of the Vaartkaai business park in the harbour of Antwerp.
To date this has been a very much sought-after site with SMEs. Then came the development and construction of Mechelen Office Park and the semi-industrial complex. The same concept was realised directly near the E19 and the Antwerp inner-ring road. Eventually a modern logistic complex was realised in phases in Willebroek, known as Antwerp South Logistics and a semi-industrial business park. This development formed part of one of the largest PPPs in the Belgian property market. It includes a land holding of over 50 hectares situated directly adjacent to the A12. The redevelopment of this area was, and still is, an important economic driver for the region.
